The modern slavery conditions in the world have not improved. To get rid of this situation, 10 thousand people need to be freed from slavery for the next decade. It was said in a report published on Wednesday. The Free Writers Foundation, based on the anti-slavery organization Wake Free Foundation, prepared this report.
It says that less than half of the world's countries consider forced labor to be a crime. Most countries do not mean forced marriage as an offense. More than 4 million people are victims of the current modern slavery in the world. Many of them are being forced to put on forced labor and marriage.
Four years before the end of modern slavery, the UN members were unanimously determined to have a global goal, with the intention of ending modern slavery by 2030. But in the new report it is said that modern slavery rates are in the present state, it is impossible to achieve that goal. In order to achieve the goal, 10 thousand people must be freed from modern slavery every day in the next decade.
Catherine Bryant, the research manager at the Walk Free Foundation, said, "In the current situation, by 2030 we will not be able to end modern slavery." 183 countries have been evaluated for preparing this report.
It is said in the report that the citizens of North Korea and Eritrea are the biggest victims of modern slavery. The government there forced their people to work hard. Libya, Iran, Guinea, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Russia, Somalia Government did not take any action to end modern slavery. Rich countries such as Qatar, Singapore, Kuwait, Brunei, Hong Kong and Russia have taken very little effort in this regard. Some countries have reduced their efforts to end slavery. Almost 100 countries in the world do not regard forced labor as an offense. However, despite limited resources, Georgia, Nigeria, Ukraine, Moldova, Ethiopia and Mozambique have taken significant steps to end modern slavery, the report said.
