Reports that two Reuters journalists were released on Tuesday by reporting on the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar. The AFP report said that they were released from the President's special apology.
These two journalists are Wai Lone (33) and Kia Soo Oo (29). 10 Rohingya men and youth were arrested for detection in December 2007 while investigating the murder. Two people were sentenced to seven years in jail for breaking the official privacy law. They were finally released after being detained for more than 17 months.
In one video, media workers surrounded them after being evacuated from Yangon's infamous Insane prison. Reuters Chief Editor Stephen Adler said in a statement: "Myanmar is very happy to release our brave journalists. The journalists, who have been in prison for 511 days, have become the symbol of freedom in the world. We welcome them to come back. '
Supporters believe that they were sentenced in September 2007 to release images of genocide in the Rakhine state. However, the Myanmar government demanded that the two journalists had documents related to security documents. With the release of this document, nearly 7.5 million Muslims fled to Bangladesh after crossing the Rohingya border.
Won Lone and Kiao Soo also won one of the Best Medal Pulitzer Medals by creating reports on genocide.
The Myanmar army said they had launched a brutal campaign against the Rakhines to overthrow the Rohingya militants. But the Reuters report has given the soldiers involved in genocide imprisonment.
The lawsuit against Reuters journalists, the whole world is shaking hands on the freedom of the media. Eminent human rights attorney Amal Cluni has joined the legal team. Time magazine published articles on Wai Lone and Kia Sao Oo.
The rights group and legal experts said that the case filed against Reuters journalists was plagued by irregularities.
