Is freedom of speech equal to insulting the Prophet (peace be upon him)?

30 October 2020

Ayatollah Uzma Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, calls on French President Emmanuel Macron to question the legitimacy of his stance on insulting the Prophet Muhammad.
Addressing the French youth, Khamenei said, "Ask your president why he took the position of insulting the Messenger of God." He added that young people in France should ask their president if freedom of speech is the same as insulting the Messenger of God and a holy man.

Ayatollah Uzma Khamenei made the remarks in a statement issued on Wednesday. He further added that Macron had insulted the people of France who had elected him president through his foolish actions. Recently, a school teacher in France named Samuel Patty showed a satirical cartoon of the Prophet (PBUH) in the name of freedom of speech in the classroom. Then a 16-year-old Chechen youth killed the teacher. French President Emmanuel Macron called the incident a "crisis of Islam" and said "Islam is in crisis all over the world."

He publicly declared that the printing of such cartoons would never stop in France. He also said that the young man who killed the French teacher did so not because of extremism but because of his faith. By saying all this, Emanuel Macron has insulted Islam and the entire Muslim world. His remarks sparked a storm of condemnation and protest in the Muslim world.
