Child abuse in Iraq interrogation: HRW

International Militant Human Rights Watch (HRW), a human rights organization, has said that it is a "flawed process" of torturing Iraqi children in connection with Islamic State or IS related to IS. This information was released on Wednesday in a report by HRW.
It is said in the report that these children are interrogated in the 'very defective' process. HRW has said that confession is being made from them.
HRW has spoken to 29 children who were detained under the territorial government of Kurdistan and were previously detained. Together with judicial sources, prison guards and relatives of prisoners, they have made this report.
In 2010, Iraq announced it had been resisted. However, many women, men, children, or even foreigners are accused of associating with the IS.
HRW said in its report, the way Iraqi authorities and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) investigate and interrogate suspected children, is very flawed. Often arbitrary detention and unfair trial are done. The children are beaten up. Electric shocks are given for talking. Even relatives, legal representatives are not allowed to speak. Many people are forced to admit without being involved in the torture of jihadist groups. It has been found that many children were arrested from camps and checkpoints on weak evidence.
A 14-year-old child, kidnapped by KRG police, said, 'They beat me with plastic pipes in my whole body. At first they said, I must admit I was IS. I am convinced. '
Most of the children interviewed by HRW say they did not fight for IS.
It is said in the report that there is no lawyer for children in the Kurdish court. The hearing is not more than 10 minutes. Most of the time the Kurds are heard. The Arabic-speaking children who do not understand. After the trial, the KRG court sentenced children to six to nine months' imprisonment. On the other hand, a federal court is sentenced to a maximum of 15 years. They are kept in adult criminals violating international standards. Even after receiving the arrest-terror, they are not protected from torture.
A 17-year-old teenager in a federal prison said, "Every day, there is a torture. They're killing us every day. '
HRW says the Iraqi and Kurdish authorities have accused about one and a half thousand children suspected of involvement in IS until 2018. Hundreds of children including at least 185 foreigners have already been convicted of terrorism charges. HRW thinks this should stop the arrest of the Federal and KRG government of Iraq. If anyone is involved in a violent crime, then only he should be tried under the law.
